Jeremy Lin's Short Story Proposal

Exposition: The setting takes place in Hong Kong, China, in the 1990's. Wu Young was a boy in his late teens, who was always interested in learning martial arts. He would often watch many action movies such as the Green Hornet, and Fists of Fury. One of his favorite idols was Bruce Lee, who inspired him to study martial arts. Wu Young's enjoys practicing Chinese Martial Arts with his older brother and Grandfather, who is a retired teacher and captain of a Chinese martial arts school. 



Inciting Incident: Growing up in a poor family, Wu Young was a social outcast. One day, Wu young gets in trouble with a few gang members who kept picking on him because of his social status. Wu Young decides to stand up for himself talk trash at them.

Rising Action: One of the boys named Sheng Yi was infuriated from Wu Young's offending words. Later that afternoon, Wu young finds a suspicious note in his locker. The note was from Sheng Yi, challenging Wu Young to a fight after school. Wu Young decides to ignore the note as he wishes to avoid any threat. Then, after school, he is confronted by the gang of boys. Wu Young is surrounded and forced to fight Sheng Yi.


Climax: The fight starts as Sheng Yi makes the first attack. Using his brute ruthless force, Sheng Yi attempts to strike at Wu Young. As Wu Young dodges his fists, he seeks an opportunity to strike. Using his sharp martial arts skills, Wu Young shockingly defeats Sheng Yi with a back spin kick in the shin and uses his fists to deliver a series of blows to the face. Sheng Yi is unable to counter, and shortly faints. The fight was over and Wu Young was victorious.



Falling Action: Moments after the fight, the ambulance and police arrived to the scene. Wu Young is arrested and is mistakenly blamed and charged with crime. After Wu Young is sent home, his parents are informed of the recent situation involving the fight. Wu Young knows that he's in trouble, and his reputation had only been getting worse.



Resolution: Wu Young's parents make a hard decision and send Wu Young to California America, where he will can be safe and start a new life.
