At the southern end of Damascus, a man sat, distraught and beaten. Likely from the years of war that had ravaged the cities of his homeland. Unsure of how long this period of peace would last, soldiers and citizens began to mingle despite clear set ethnic lines. Those who truly cared about the color of their enemies skin, or the religious views of the opposing armies, were few and far between. Government had no presence on the battlefront. European soldiers, overcome by greed and corruption only sought fortune and fame while on the battle field. Arabs sought only to protect their homeland from the white men invading it. Time seemed to stand still even as hours even days passed. The man who seemed miss placed was no longer sitting upright, but had gone into the fetal position. He was most likely suffering from starvation. The war seemed to be the backdrop for a larger story of events that occurred in this once boisterous town. It begs the question: What happened here?
