It was 6 o’clock in the morning and Matt was ready for the rest of his life. Matt got up, brushed his teeth, washed his face, and got dressed. He was told by his instructor to pack light and avoid any unnecessary items because of the extra weight they bring. Matt walked over to the kitchen table where all of his necessary survival items lay. A canteen, tarp, fishing line, a map, iodine tablets, eating utensils, a knife, twine, small stove, and an emergency medical kit.
Matt felt confident about his decision to embark on a 25 mile, 6 day trek across the rural Virginia wilderness. Matt knew he was going to be gone for 6 days; so he made the necessary precautions while prepping his house before departure. Matt called his mom before he left and said goodbye, Matt had told her before that he was going away on a wilderness tour so she knew he was leaving. Matt locked all of his doors and windows and left. Day 1 had already started and Matt was out the door, Matt walked to his car, got inside and drove away. He had to drive 50 miles from his house into the Virginia forrest until he could reach his destination, where he would meet his instructor, Dave. There were 4 other people joining him on this trip through the wilderness, he hadn’t met them yet but he expected them to be very nice. He was hoping they would be cool people because he knew 6 days of surviving with people you don’t like would be brutal.
